The 9th edition of the International Summit has created History with over 880 attendees from 370+ Org. representing 11 Countries. This is the Only Platform Globally with 3 critical segments of the plastic converting industry – Injection Moulding, Blow Moulding, and PET with participation from over 50 Brand Owners and Leading Recyclers. Over 50 Cos. exhibited with Booths.

This is the Only Global platform for Sustainable Growth Discussions with Global Processors, Resin Makers, Brand Owners, PCR Recyclers, and M/C Makers – All Under One Roof. Global industry Leaders delivered 35 power-packed presentations on latest innovations in technology, global business trends and advancements, presented by main Raw material producers, machinery makers, convertors and Processors, Recyclers and Brand Owners.
FIRST TIME in 9th edition of IMBM and PET Summit – 3 new additions were made:

1. Over 50 Leaders from Brand Owners attended to:

  •  Strategize for meeting PCR content obligations by collaborating with PCR recyclers and processors
  • Engage in discussions aimed at exploring strategies for reducing costs associated with PCR materials.
  • Gain insights into aligning efforts between Brand Owners and Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) to effectively fulfill recycled content obligations

2. Leading Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs) attended & discussed:

  • Recyclate Demand by Processors and Brand Owners.
  • With Brand Owners to understand the grades of recycled material to be used in end products.
  • How processors plan to use recycled material for converting.
  • Opportunities and challenges for using recyclate in mono and multilayer by processors.
  • Influence of international and domestic regulations on the development of the post-consumer recycled (PCR) supply chain
  • Regulatory frameworks governing recycling, waste management, and sustainable material sourcing

3. Opportunity for Moulders with future of EV as Leading OEMs shared Mobility trends on:

  • Plastics’ contribution to hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles
  • Role of polymers in next-generation mobility solutions
  • Addressing the hurdles and potential of polymers in EV manufacturing
  • Advancements and growth in EV battery technologies
  • Exploring plastic applications in electric vehicles (EVs) and white goods

In addition to the regular features as mentioned, this Summit stands out for including contemporary topics like EPR (Extended producers Responsibility), Sustainability, and Artificial Intelligence.

The Keynote speakers included Mr Navanit Narayan, Wholetime Director & Chief Executive Officer, Haldia Petrochemicals, Mr A.S. Sahney, Executive Director (Petrochemicals), Indian Oil Corporation, Mr Toshihiro Kasai, Executive Officer on Board, Shibaura Machine, Japan, Mr Nadir Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director, Godrej Industries. And Ms Ashima Goyal, Member, Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)

The keynote speakers highlighted Circular Economy and efforts towards sustainable polymer, getting ready for 2030 and Resilience of Indian growth story.

Other highlights of the summit were Four power packed Panel discussion on “Impact of Global and national Regulations on the PCR Supply Chain Developments.”, “Rigid Plastics applications and Way Forward for Customer needs and Circular Requirement”, Plastics Circularity from the Perspective of a brand Owner”, and on “PET – Perspective of Brand Owner”.

Highly relevant concerns were raised in the area of sustainability. All the brand owners have obligation to increase percentage of recycled plastics in their packaging. The challenge at present is for getting the consistent quality of recycled granules. The potential is huge for quality recycled plastics as share of Recyclates grows by Brand owners. Future will see large recyclers entering the field with quality upgradation of recycling.

Recyclers voiced their concern of the non-uniformity of materials used by brand owners for their end products. Brand owners focus is on the product appearance, economy and customer appeal. This needs to change to recyclability of the discarded rigid packages like blow moulded and injection moulded articles. Additives and colour are a big challenge for recyclers to produce quality granules from waste material.

Another very valid concern raised by the plastics fraternity was the negatives perception of plastics being carried by the public and policy makers. There are various myths about plastics which were confronted by real hard data. Ons such myth is the guilt of using plastics by consumers due the myth created that plastics have high carbon footprint. Whereas the fact is that only 4% of crude is used by petrochemical Industry and 1.5%
by plastics packaging. The balance is used by transportation and for energy requirement where the carbon foot print is very high.

For example, carbon footprint per passenger for a long-haul flight is multiple times in single flight compared to the plastics used per capita per year by one man. Use of plastics needs to be celebrated and not curbed while keeping the industry efforts on towards sustainability.

The session of EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) generated such an interest that ElitePlus announced a separate Zoom call between Presenter AA Garg &CO and the delegates to learn more and clear their doubts. EPR, part of Plastics Waste management Rules has been refined over the years. It has become a law or obligation now for Raw material producers, Converters, Recyclers, and brand owners to Register themselves
on the EPR portal and meet the obligations outlined for each section of stake holders.

The Summit demonstrated the industry’s commitment to embracing innovation and Sustainable practices and achieving Growth. The Summit provided a platform for learning, growth, and collaboration, making it a Business Growth gathering of industry members on a Global scale.
