To tackle the growing competition in Eastern India, emphasizing on Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Kolkatta based, Kalyani Packaging bought a brand new C.I.Flexo FLEXODELIGHT HL-400 from Echaar Equipment pvt. ltd.
The History
Established in 1985, Kalyani Printers was started by late Sir Achin Chatterjee for primarily manufacturing Rotogravure Printing products in Baranagar, Kolkatta within 1000 sq.ft. Before starting the factory, he completed degree in printing technology from Sidhpur and worked with Jardian Hunderstanding for nearly 60 years as a print quality superintendent.
India’s first rotogravure plant was set-up in Kolkatta in 1862 by two French brothers, Jardian and Hunderstand. The brothers visited the famous Dakshineshwar Kali mata temple in Kolkatta where Achin Sir’s father was a priest, he requested a job for this son who already possess the knowledge of Printing Technology.
After completion of tenure if 32 years in Jardian and Hunderstanding, in 1985 Achin retired from the company and later set-up a Rotogravure plant along with his elder son Prasant Chatterjee. The loan of 1.72 Lakhs from Kolkatta government and other saving helped them to purchase Rotogravure and Slitting machines for the new plant. Gradually they acquired many machineries, in 1990 his other two son Sushant and Shrikant also joined the business.
With the help of new experienced team, in 2002 they bought a new factory in Dakshineswar of 17000 sq.ft where they installed 2 more Rotogravure printing machine and gradually added 2 more rotogravure machines in 2008. They also bought lamination machine from expert machinery and additional slitting machine. And eventually changed the name to Kalyani packaging.
CI Flexo- The Need of Hour
Biodegradable product is necessary in India, “Biodegradable” refers to the ability of things to get disintegrated (decomposed) by the action of micro-organisms such as bacteria or fungi biological (with or without oxygen) while getting assimilated into the natural environment. There’s no ecological harm during the process. We can either speak of biodegradable solids (also called compostable) or liquids that biodegrade into water.
The applications of CI Flexo printing include the manufacture of flexible and aluminum packaging, pre-print liners and labels, plastic and paper bags, heavy duty paper sacks, and shrink sleeves.
Srikant Chatterjee, Director of Kalyani Packaging said, “After much exploration, we found that C.I. press is robust and very impressive that can print on paper, foils, BOPP, PE, polyester and also reprocessed polyester. However processed polyester is far expensive than a normal polyester. To catch-up with the latest technology and have a sustainable environment we decided to add high speed C.I. Flexo in our production facility.”
Aatma Nirbhar Bharat- ECHAAR Flexodelight
In order to regain the strength of the economy in the global market with self-reliance, the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan was launched by honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi to make India self-reliant. It gives the upliftment to weaker sections and empowering migrated laborers, who are drastically affected by COVID-19. This will also strengthen the economy, improve the standard of living and most importantly improve the trade deficit and the exchequer balance of the country. Making the country self-reliant in all spheres- from manufacturing to supplying. It will help the country to reduce its dependence on imports and may also give a boost to exports. The fall in imports will help reduce the trade deficit and will eventually lead to trade surplus.
Endorsing the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat, Kalyani Packaging installed indigenously made C.I. Flexo press – FLEXODELIGHT from Echaar Equipments Pvt. Ltd. We met few Indian manufacturers of C.I. Flexo presses after a good research, we finalized Echaar’ s FLEXODILIGHT. Echaar is a huge company, they manufacturers different kind of products for the government of India and closely work with various government bodies like the Bhabha Atomic Center.” Explained Srikant.
The Installation
we took a trial of FLEXODILIGHT HL400 in Echaar’ s premises. The trial was very successful, and we finalized the machine in just one trail run. It is a super high-speed machine with accurate printing technology which is not there in rotogravure machine. It is a fully automatic, European Standard, indigenously build C.I. Flexo. We are proud that these kinds of High Tech machines are built in India and with 100% assurance we can recommend this machine to other printers who are looking for C.I. technology.”
The Rewarding Service
Since 1862, the Chatterjee family is still a priest in Dakshineswar temple and offer their service to Kali maa rotationally. “We are honored to offer our service to Mata ji, and maa has blessed us with the desired progress. Even during Covid times our business didn’t stopped, on a contrary it was better than usual, however we took the precautionary measures like sanitization of factory and performing medical checkup of our employees on regular interval.” Concludes Srikant
