Daetwyler SwissTec develops and produces high-quality MDC doctor blades for different print applications. Their vast array of uncoated and coated blades gives customers an extra edge in printing. The company’s doctor blades meet the highest quality standards. Labels Flexibles and More spoke to Markus Resing, Deputy Head of Marketing and Sales for Daetwyler SwissTec AG, and Sudhir Dhotey, MD Daetwyler SwissTec India, at the Elite Plus Speciality Films and Flexible Packaging Conference.
Markus said, “The business is growing in India as the customer is ready to use high-quality standard products. Certainly, there was an increase in the volume after the pandemic. The converters now understand the importance of the premium product. Though there were few challenges worldwide like the pandemic and the war situation, export was also the challenge, but we managed the business effectively.”
Regarding the competition and new product launch, Markus said, “Of course, competition is everywhere and it is increasing, it’s not only with the local supplier, also with the foreign suppliers, but Daetwyler SwissTec is well prepared. We have recently expanded our production facility in India and have added more machinery to produce standard doctor blades in Pune. We are working on two new products that will be launched this year and are planning to launch three more products next year. We are also informing the same to our product partners and customers.”
Speaking from the market perspective, Sudhir said, “Indian market is looking good despite Covid. In 2020-21 it was a challenging time, but we achieved our targets and completed all our orders. The coated blades order grew significantly in 2021, and we expect much growth in 2023. We plan to launch new products in the coated blades segment as informed by Markus above. The wide web presses require excellent doctor blades. The major brands are expanding their business and enhancing their quality requirements and require very good doctor blades.”
“Daetwyler SwissTec does have production facilities in Switzerland, USA, China and India and distribution partners all over the world. We see good potential of expansion in Asia of course, but also on the African continent and in South America.”
Reviewing the event, Sudhir Dhotey said, “This is the first event after almost three years, and connecting directly with the converters and the brand owners is beneficial. It is good to participate in this event. We met many people and made good contacts. We got precious information through good presentations, which is an added benefit.”
