Domino N610i enabled Unick-Fix-a-Form in meeting customer requirements with extended colour gamut
Unick-Fix-a-Form was founded in 1993 as an extended content label manufacturing company under a license from Fix-A-Form International. Today, this BSE-listed company has an annual turnover of over 70 crores and manufactures products like Booklet/Leaflet Labels, Self-Adhesive Labels, Mono Cartons, In-mould Labels, Leaflets, etc. Unick-Fix-a-Form has many awards for its innovative products, including the recently won LMAI’s best booklet label manufacturer award in 2022.
Priyank Vasa, Director of Unick-Fix-a-Form explains the importance of having an ideal digital press together with a conventional Flexo machine. In 2020, Unick installed India’s first Domino N610i digital press. This 7-color press is powered by Esko digital front-end with colour management and variable printing suite.
Digital is complementing Conventional Operations
Elaborating about the label business, Priyank said, “It’s always good to have technologies which complement each other at the production facility. We have four conventional Flexo presses, one digital press, four offset presses, and many other auxiliary machineries for label and carton conversion. You can always switch jobs based on the run lengths. We are one of the leading suppliers of Fix-A-Form Multi-page labels, PSA labels and shrink sleeves. After the introduction of Domino N610i, we have made excellent progress as supplier of in-mold labels. We serve wide range of market sectors which include pharmaceutical, FMCG and agrochemical industries.
‘During the pandemic, especially when we were facing constraints in having staff on the shop floor, we could run the N610i press remotely with only one operator. It helped us print numerous jobs related to essential services when our conventional print services were settling down. So digital complimented our conventional business very well.’
Why Domino
‘ The N610i can print at a speed of up to 70 meters per minute and can achieve up to 92% of the Pantone gamut. Being in the pharma industry, we wanted a digital press that could handle Pantone colour matching and cover a larger gamut. Domino is a well-known brand for inkjet printing and has direct representation in India that gave us more confidence. N610i offers W+CMYKOV. It also offers pre and post-Flexo stations enabling us to work on wide range if substrates.
Every new technology has its learning curve. Having said that, the Domino service and support have been brilliant. Training of our team was done in an organised manner both on the digital press and the software.
Our N610i press can print both supported and unsupported webs. It also features a chill roll which helps in printing the thinner and heat sensitive substrates. The software is futuristic and covers traditional as well as evolving market requirements. Variable Data Printing (VDP) with QR codes, data matrix codes, special codes for logistics and ecommerce purposes can be printed seamlessly helping brands with traceability, anti-counterfeiting and consumer engagement campaigns”
