Konica Minolta displayed their AccurioLabel 400 in the recently concluded Pamex 2024 printing and packaging expo. AccurioLabel 400 is a robust printing system explicitly designed for label production. One notable feature is the incorporation of white toner, allowing for a broader range of applications. In addition, the press boasts remarkable productivity enhancements, achieving rapid print speeds of up to 39.9 meters per minute. Moreover, users can benefit from reduced running costs due to its components’ increased durability and improved print quality.

During a meeting with Labels Flexibles and More, Katsuhisa Asari (Kurt) shared his insights on the market potential for the digital printing business in India. Kurt, an expert in the packaging industry who has vast experience and knowledge in the field, combined with his forward-thinking approach, provided a unique perspective on the potential growth of the digital printing market.

LFAM: What are your predictions for India’s economy and the country’s digital printing industry?
KURT: Our business is thriving, and a significant portion of our success can be attributed to the solid Indian economy. With various shifts in consumer behaviour, our customer base is continuously expanding, and as a result, our output is also increasing. What makes this growth even more promising is that it is not limited to our business alone but is being experienced by others in the industry as well. Despite this positive trend, we remain committed to constantly improving our investments and finding new ways to provide value to our customers. It ensures we stay ahead of the competition and excel in our industry.

LFAM: Is this the first time Konica Minolta has shown off the AccurioLabel 400 digital label printing machine at Pamex?
KURT: During this Pamex exhibition, we see a lot more competent prospects. There are some extensive products showcased at the expo. On the first day, there were about 500 walk-ins to our stall. People are here to understand more about what they can do to grow their businesses. Around 50% are business people and potential buyers. We hope they will see some interest in our products, which will help them add value to their businesses.

AccurioLabel 400

The AccurioLabel 400 is a highly impressive press that offers a range of advanced features and capabilities. However, its excellent performance and cutting-edge technology come at a substantial price tag. For print converters, investing in this press can be challenging if they are not clear about their business plan and specific needs. Without a solid understanding of how they plan to use the press and what their goals are, it can be tough for them to make a confident buying decision.

LFAM: Can you tell us what options you have for label printers?
KURT: We have two products – AccurioLabel 230 and AccurioLabel 400.

LFAM: How is the demand for digital machines in India?
KURT: The demand is increasing every year. A lot of different things are happening in the digital printing industry. Due to the economic boom, short-run printing and variable data printing are growing. The education industry is also growing and has contributed to the growth of digital print. Nowadays, business owners want customization and don’t want to stack thousands of copies, so short-runs are growing. Even though the recession is coming, it doesn’t feel like it will affect the industry. Packaging is also one of the fantastic sectors and will probably be the fastest-growing sector in the next 10 years.

LFAM: In what ways does Konica Minolta support a sustainable economy?
KURT: At our company, we strongly believe in taking significant initiatives to promote sustainability and contribute to the betterment of society. As a part of this, we have taken several steps to introduce eco-friendly products and reduce our carbon footprint. We are also actively looking at ways to achieve zero-emission and promote recycling practices. Along with our corporate social responsibility, we have been actively participating in various activities to empower and support Indian citizens. One of our key initiatives includes partnering with the Noida deaf society, where our employees are learning sign language to communicate effectively with those who are hearing impaired. This not only helps our employees enhance their skills but also allows us to create employment opportunities for the deaf community in our organization. Additionally, we regularly engage in tree-planting activities, involving our employees, partners, and customers. We strongly believe that it is our responsibility to have a positive impact on society and the environment, and we will continue our efforts in this direction.

LFAM: What is your advice to the young generation planning to enter the printing industry?
KURT: I am truly amazed and appreciative of the young generation in India who are passionate about the printing business. In a time where everyone is glued to their smartphones and much of our work is digital, it is refreshing to see young people enter the printing industry as entrepreneurs. They are not only bringing a fresh perspective and modern approach to the business, but also establishing their own printshops and photo labs. I have noticed that many of these young entrepreneurs come from a line of family businesses, with the second or third generation taking over from their parents. What stands out to me is their innovative ideas and desire to do things differently from the current generation, while also creating opportunities for future generations. These young entrepreneurs have the potential to be game changers in the industry, bringing a new level of success and growth. I believe their passion and drive will not only benefit their own businesses, but also contribute to the overall boost and development of the printing industry in India.
