In conversation with Labels Flexibles & More, Ramesh Kejriwal, Chairman of Parksons Packaging shares the insight of the company and their latest innovation of Gable-top packaging.

He says, “As commercial printer, Parksons Press was started in 1957. I entered in the business in 1971. From commercial printing arena, in 1994 we explored new sectors and tried to diversify ourselves into packaging and folding cartons. Later we identified packaging and folding cartons as one of the areas of business. Eventually in 1996 we form Parksons Packaging. Currently, our focus is predominantly in packaging.”

The company operates in pan India and their factories are located in all the different regions. There are two plants each in West and North. And one plant each in South and East. The plant in Daman plant operates the highest number of sheet-fed offset lines, under one roof in India. The plant in Pune, Chakan is located in one of the fastest developing industrial belts of the country and is spread over more than 190,000  sq feets production space and is the largest independent folding carton plant in India. At Pantnagar, Uttarakhand Parksons operates in 2 plants making it the hub for servicing for clients located in Norther India.

The plant in Sri City (Andhra Pradesh) and Guwahati (Assam) plants are recently built that gives the company a truly Pan India presence.

Talking about their strategy, Ramesh adds, “Most of our customers are domestic customers. It depends upon the customers profile and the future growth approach before taking any kind of jobs. We are not biased for long-run job as we need to balance between small-run and big-run job. Small-run jobs are more in pharmaceutical segment but gradually it is also increasing and food and FMCG sector. Short-run jobs cannot be ignored; however, we have specialized machinery to perform small-run. Multinational companies like HUL and Nestle also give short-run jobs and we cannot ignore. For manufacturing, our plant facilities have installation of either KBA or Heidelberg or combination of both that can perform any kind of run length.”

Elaborating on the potential of Paper packaging, he said “Currently, Flexible Packaging is growing much faster than Paper Packaging but slowly we will witness a shift from flexible to paper packaging and it will fast catch-up. In future, we see a huge potential in paper packaging. Recycling of paper is very easy because there is already an organized and unorganized sector for collection of paper whereas in plastic there is no proper collection system. Paper can be recycled very easily whether it is old paper or a new paper. Paper is easily recyclable and biodegradable whereas in plastic, the system is yet to evolve in India.  To pack variety of liquid consumable like milk, oils, etc., we have started with Gable Top packaging made from paper board.”

Gable Top cartons are considered to be the most popular form of packaging for a variety of products –

  • Liquid products like milk, yoghurt, cream, edible oil, juices, health drinks, beer, liquor, wine & egg yolk.
  • Dry products like snacks, sugar, Ice cream mix, laundry detergents, lubricants, paints & cosmetics.

Parksons Packaging is the first company in India offering an end-to-end solution to pack liquid & dry products in a Gable Top carton. As an innovative solution provider you can rely on Parksons Packaging to meet your packaging and production requirements. The company has partnered with NiMCO to offer custom solutions to fill and pack in Gable Top cartons. This is supported by a well-trained sales & service network with an objective to provide support and service of the best quality.

About the innovation center and governance policy he said, “We are continuously innovating, we have an innovation center in Pune, Chakan named Design Park where we have employed 5 to 7 people who are continuously looking for developing new products and new technology. They work independently from our regular production and operations.”

We have a very high governance and compliance with in our company. So, desipe of being a private company it is run professionally run. All the plant head, marketing heads and commercial heads are very qualified to work independently in their area of work. We continue to improve on our systems and processes, and continue to give more responsibility to a team member to take on more challenges. That is the philosophy we continue to adopt.”

‘The buying power in the develop nations is very high. If you see in packaging for a paper the per capita consumption in India might be below 10 kg where is in developed nation it might be 200 to 300 kg. In China as well it is 80 to 100 kg. As the economy grow we will also grow. The growth is stagnant in the developed Nations since population is stagnant but buying potential is more. Whereas, India is still on a very high trajectory of growth compared to develop Nation in percentage terms.” Concludes Kejriwal.
