DuPont Advanced Printing launched DuPont™ Cyrel® EASY BRITE Screens and the Cyrel® EASY BRITE™ Index in May 2018. The screens are designed to optimize ink laydown in high-volume printing, typically seen when printing a white undercoat or solid areas with spot colors. They contain a suite of screens that have shown to improve solid printing at volumes of 4.0 bcm and greater. There are five screens in total: two screens designed for customers without the HD Pixel+ imaging capability and three screens designed to take full advantage of HD Pixel+ imaging.
‘Labels Flexibles & More’ spoke to Shyamal Desai, marketing manager, Americas, DuPont Advanced Printing during the 7th Speciality Films and Flexible Packaging Conference held in Mumbai.
“One of the key things which we saw in the summit is the emphasis on sustainability,” Desai said. “In the past this subject was more of an after-thought but now, with regulations in place, people are realising the importance of sustainable products.” Pointing out to the eco-friendly features of Cyrel® technology he added, “Flexographic printing is more sustainable than Gravure printing. Our latest innovation – the Cyrel® FAST 2000 TD processor - allows us to make plates without using any solvent.”
One of the exciting technologies which DuPont has introduced in the show, especially for the market in India, is Cyrel® EASY BRITE Screens, which in conjunction with Cyrel® EASY plates, rounds-out the complete portfolio. “A brighter white is not just about opacity – we believe high opacity alone doesn’t make a good print. You need a combination of opacity, low mottle and low graininess to have a good white. Cyrel® EASY BRITE Screens will deliver not only high opacity, but also improve mottle and improve graininess on inks that use a high volume anilox. The EASY BRITE™ Index is a multidimensional measurement that combines opacity, mottle and graininess into a single number. Unless you have white underlayer, anything that you print on top of it will not give a good result. Using the Cyrel® EASY BRITE Screens you will have the ability to have the best quality white background that enhances the print quality,” Desai pointed out.
Being trained in Six Sigma at DuPont, Shyamal generously provided the guidance on the ideal workflow of printing operation. He said, ‘Theoretically, Lean Six Sigma methodology relies on a collaborative team effort to improve performance by systematically removing waste and reducing variation. It combines lean manufacturing/lean enterprise and Six Sigma to eliminate the eight kinds of waste. By following those principles anyone can make their workflow more productive. It is mainly used to analyse where you have value-adding tasks and non-value tasks and consequently eliminate the non-value tasks. It is about organising the job from start to finish.”
‘The Indian market is traditionally a gravure market but due to government restrictions and emphasis on sustainable products the converters will look to explore Flexo. Need of Flexo is growing fast in India. Cyrel® is widely accepted all across the globe. Interestingly, the packaging industry is proportional to its consumption. The per capita consumption in India is growing in coming years hence the packaging industry will simultaneously grow, specifically the flexible packaging segment.’ Shyamal concluded.
